Most of the plates for the loco drag box have now been drilled and trial assembly is well underway.

Some parts of the drag box, buffer beam and wear plates are now being trial fitted to the engine frames.

During the last two months several new plates for the engine drag box have been laser cut. Now delivered to site they are being drilled along with the new angle. We have taken the opportunity to thicken some of the plates from the original design.

Work this weekend has centred on removing the running plates from the tender to allow a better assessment of the frame. We have also been removing some of the rust from the sides of the boiler that were previously inaccessible.

A big step forward for the engine today. After a lot of preparation work the boiler has been lifted from the frames. The tender tank has been removed and the tender frames placed in the field along with the boiler and tender wheel sets. The day started at nine with the crane being set up. This I’m sure took longer than all the lifts put together. By twelve we were done with the crane and again dismantling took about the same time. A big thank you has to go to Julian, Stuart and Alan for their help and of course Emma for keeping us all supplied with tea for the day.

Apologies for the quality of some of the pictures as you can imagine taking photos into the sun is not ideal.
