Today saw us removing the smoke box door. Nick has been busy with the gas axe on the boiler mounting brackets. Most of the bolts in the smoke box have been burned out so a trial lift of the boiler shouldn't be to far away.

A lot has happened in the background over the last month. The under keeps have been cast for the bogie truck. The originals were missing from the engine being a very removable part in Barry yard.

A quote for the springs for the whole engine has been received and the top frame for the drag box has been made. This will be drilled in the next few weeks along with the angle irons. So far about half of the drag box has been remade.

The steel for the spring hangers has been sourced and the float for the tender water tank overhauled, and the missing parts made in stainless steal.

With some empty siding space allowing us vehicle access, today saw the dismantling of the bogie truck. The bogie came apart as planned. First the top centre casting was removed. Having cut out all the fitted bolts we were then able to remove the horn guides, wheel sets and the axle boxes. We are now faced with a kit of parts that i'm sure airfix would be proud of.

Stamps on the axle boxes show they were fitted to no less than three engines before becoming into use on 5967.
